Grand Canyon Trip with Older Adult

Do you have parents or relatives who are over 65 years old? Do you want to bring them to visit Grand Canyon? If you do, you might have some reservations about taking them to visit Grand Canyon because of their mobility or health issues. Let me share my experience in overcoming this worry. My parent came and visit me in Texas and she would like to see Grand Canyon. I decided to take her for a 3 days/2 nights trip to Las Vegas.

Flight and Accommodation. The key to get a good deal is if your willingness to travel light, be flexible and do your research. There are many website such as fly.com, kayak.com, and expedia.com which offer a good package for Las Vegas destination. For this trip, I decided to fly using Spirit Air. I know some people are wary about Spirit Air because of their many extras and possible delays but I have no problem flying Spirit Air and I did get  $81.00 round trip DFW-LAX airfare per person. I used Priceline.com to book my hotel room.

Grand Canyon Tour.  I booked the Grand Canyon South Rim with a Jeep Tour option through Viator.com, a TripAdvisor site.  The tour was operated by Gray Line. We were picked up from the hotel pick up spot and went to the Gray Line office where we received orientation and  drink coupons.  After the check-in, we went to our bus. The air-conditioned motor coach is spacious and comfortable. The tour guide took an extra step making sure my family is comfortable. My parent used a wheelchair so they seated us in the first row.  And off we go!!

Hoover Dam

We arrived at the Grand Canyon South Rim just in time to see the IMAX movie. We watched a short movie about Grand Canyon and then we went to have lunch. By the way, the lunch is included in the tour price. After lunch, we are ready to hop in to the pink jeep to see Grand Canyon up close.

The tour finished around 06:00 pm and we headed back to Las Vegas. During the travel back, we passed through the Hoover Dam again on the right side of the bus. The view at night was stunning and we had a few minutes opportunity to take picture of the Hoover Dam.

We arrived in Las Vegas around 10:00 pm. We were dropped off at the Ceasar Palace and we took a shuttle bus to our hotel.  It was a really long trip but my parent said that it was worth it.

Tips: Bring some scarf with you because it can be windy at the Grand Canyon.

Lake View Cemetery (Cleveland, OHIO)

I had an opportunity to travel to Ohio last November. For a short excursion, I decided to explore Lake View Cemetery. This cemetery has a few point of interest: The Haserot Angel, Wade Chapel, The Garfield Monument, Rockefeller Monument, and Lake View Cemetery Dam.

If you happen to travel to Cleveland, you may want to consider to visit this cemetery. It is well maintained, free and has a historical value.

Texas Roadhouse

We live about a mile away from Texas Roadhouse and we have been eating at that place every now and then. The things we love about Texas Roadhouse is the family friendly atmosphere and we don’t have to wait too long before we are seated.

Since today is the last day of summer break and the children will start school tomorrow, we decided to have dinner at Texas Roadhouse. When we came in, there was practically no wait line at all. We got to sit right away. The waitress was a very nice young lady and she brought two baskets of delicious dinner rolls to our table.

There was also a bucket of roasted peanuts at the table!!! It was really good. The children loved the rolls and peanuts so much that I was worry they won’t eat their dinner.

Our choice of appetizer is Chili Fries. It was loaded with cheddar cheese and bacon bits. It was cooked right: crispy and not too salty.  Believe me or not, they are gone in less than 5 minutes.

I have been craving some steak for awhile now so I ordered bone-in rib eye steak with mushrooms on top of it. Their steak was tender and moist. The main course came with two choices of sides. There were quite a selection of sides: mash potato, baked potatoes, cup of chili, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, green beans, salad, sautéed onions, and so on.

The children liked their fried catfish. It was fresh and didn’t leave an aftertaste.  And of course, as predicted, they couldn’t finish their dinner. They were so full from the dinner rolls and peanuts.

Overall, it was a good experience. It was not cheap but we came home happy and satisfied. We are ready for the new 2015-2016 school year.
